Culture is characterised by language, rites, identifications symbols , dressing code , rituals. BCA value diversity represented by multiple traditions coexisting in Cameroon.
BCA is apolitical, Cameroonians residing in Bristol and its vicinity and has the following cultural aims:
- To nurture and consolidate a sense of solidarity and fraternity amongst its members by providing moral or material support.
- To promote the Cameroonian culture in the United Kingdom and foster the spirit of integration with other communities.
- To support certain good will causes in Cameroon and in the UK.
The association undertakes the following activities:
- We organise regular monthly meetings with free food and drinks after each meeting.
- Once a year, we organise children’s Christmas party to present gifts to member’s children as well as other children from black minority ethnic (BME) groups in Bristol and its vicinity.
- Launch of BCA annual newsletter entitled ‘HERITAGE’ usually in December.
- We organise weekly football activities during summer, picnic and day trips.
- Once a year we organise a day event to celebrate the National Day of Cameroon with different activities including:
- Exhibitions of Cameroonian art and artisanal works (sculpture, pottery, poetry, theatre, etc) and traditional outfits;
- Round table workshops and presentations about the flora and fauna of Cameroon;
- Traditional dance and drumming percussion;
- Gala night and gastronomic display of Cameroonian dishes;
- Fashion parade for children and adult with different traditional outfits in association with other nationalities in Bristol and its vicinity;
- Debate and Football games.
Our culture is also defined by the type of food we cook and enjoy!
